About Me
Hi! I'm Patrick McGee, a fourth year biomedical engineering student at Cal Poly SLO with a focus in biomechatronics and a passion for improving the quality of life of others. I plan to pursue a career in med-device and contribute to the development of bionic prosthetics, pacemakers, and countless other lifechanging medical devices. Aside from Luke Skywalker's robotic arm driving my infatuation with prosthetics, I have always been inspired by the idea of advancing prosthetics to the point where losing a limb no longer defines or dramatically alters a person’s life. It is this drive and interest in the field that I have spent my time in undergrad with an intentional focus in prosthetic development from iterative socket and liner design, to interchangeable attachments intended for rock climbing and recreational gym use.
In addition to the technical and administrative roles that I have held in E.M.P.O.W.E.R. discussed here, I have previous industry experience from Abbott's Cardiac Rhythm Management Division as a mechanical engineering co-op on the R&D Product Development team. During my 6-month stint at Abbott, I contributed to the development of existing and upcoming high and low voltage pacemakers, pacing leads, insertable cardiac monitors, and patient care systems. I strengthened my skills in medical device design, analysis, and technical documentation while gaining new experiences in hands-on cyclic fatigue analysis, shock and vibration testing, and fixture design for self-written test methods and subsequent validation plans.
I'd appreciate the opportunity to connect and chat more about how you see my skillset aligning with your company's needs. Please either reach out to me on LinkedIn, or email me directly at pmcgeebusiness5@gmail.com. I look forward to hearing from you!
